What is Lylatul Qadr?

Lylatul Qadr is considered to be the holiest night of the year for Muslims, and is traditionally celebrated during Ramadan. It is also known as the “Night of Power,” and commemorates the night that the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (saw).

When is Lylatul Qadr 2021?

As we all know this is one of the odd nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan. This year, Lylatul Qadr 2021 is expected to be observed on the night of Saturday, 8th May, 2021. However, exact date is subject to the sighting of the moon of Ramadan, 1442.
Narrated by Aishah (R.A.) that Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) said:

“Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.” (Sahih Bukhari: 2017)

So Lylatul Qadr falls on either 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th night of Ramadan. However, it has been emphasized that it is most likely to be the 27th night of Ramadan.

Significance of this Night

Lylatul Qadr is of great importance its also called Night of Power. In Quran Allah (swt) dedicated whole surah for this night. Allah (swt) says in Surah Al-Qadr:

إِنّا أَنزَلناهُ في لَيلَةِ القَدرِ. وَما أَدراكَ ما لَيلَةُ القَدرِ. لَيلَةُ القَدرِ خَيرٌ مِن أَلفِ شَهرٍ. تَنَزَّلُ المَلائِكَةُ وَالرّوحُ فيها بِإِذنِ رَبِّهِم مِن كُلِّ أَمرٍ. سَلامٌ هِيَ حَتّىٰمَطلَعِ الفَجرِ

“Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.”
(Surah Al-Qadr, 97:1-5)
