Orphaned children — often bearing the trauma of loss, displacement, or poverty — are among the most vulnerable in any society. Left without consistent care, they face profound challenges in accessing food, basic health support, education, and emotional wellbeing. Aghosh was created to change that reality by offering more than just shelter — it provides a family, stability, and support for growth.

What Aghosh Stands For

A Loving, Family-Like Environment

Each Aghosh unit is organised into an Aghosh Family, where a dedicated carer (Aghosh mom) raises a small group of children as her own. This arrangement helps children feel secure, supported, and part of a family again — a crucial foundation for emotional and social development.

Holistic Care and Nourishment

Children are provided with nutritious daily meals, clothing, shelter, and medical support. Onsite healthcare and regular check-ups ensure their physical wellbeing is fully supported.

Education and Development

Aghosh integrates both religious and contemporary secular education, preparing children for both academic success and strong moral grounding. Children study core subjects like English, Urdu, Arabic, science, and if appropriate, Hifz-e-Quran and religious studies, supported by qualified teachers.

Life Skills and Personal Growth

Educational support extends beyond the classroom. Recreational activities, personality development, leadership training, and practical life skills are woven into daily life to help children grow into confident, productive adults

History and Expansion

Established in response to the growing number of orphaned and vulnerable children in Pakistan and beyond, Aghosh began as a dedicated orphan care strategy within Minhaj Welfare Foundation’s broader welfare portfolio. The project has since expanded from an initial pilot caring for a smaller number of children to a nationwide network of Aghosh homes, reaching thousands of young lives with consistent care and education.

Today, Aghosh homes operate in multiple locations across Pakistan, with dozens of residential facilities that collectively support over 1,800 children — with more homes planned or under construction to increase access and impact.
