Rajab Al-Marjab is counted among the sacred months of Allah Almighty. Out of these 4 months, 3 months (Dhu al-Qadah, Dhu’l-Hijjah and Muharram Al-Haram) come together in a row. However, the month of Rajab falls between them separately and distinctly between the month of Jamadi Ul-Thani and the month of Sha’ban Al-Moazzam.

Significance

In the Glorious Qur’an, Allah SWT says,“ Indeed, the number of months, according to Allah’s decree, is twelve months. It is (laid down) in Allah’s Book, since the day He created the heavens and the earth. Out of them, four (Dhu al-Qa‘da, Dhu al-Hijja, Muharram and Rajab) are sacred. That is the upright calculation. So do not wrong yourself during these months (by getting involved in warfare). And fight the (combatant) idolaters all together (in case they attack you) as they fight you all together. And know that Allah is with those who guard against evil.” (At-Tawbah, 9:36)

Month of Allah (SWT)

Respected Ikrimah (RA) has narrated from Respected Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Holy Prophet ﷺ said: “Rajab is the month of Allah (SWT) and Sha’ban is My month while Ramadan is the month of my ummah”. (Hadith)

Hazrat Musa ibn Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have heard Hazrat Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: There is a river in Paradise which is called It is whiter and sweeter than honey. Whoever fasts one day in the month of Rajab, Allah will give him the water of that river. ”

Fasting in Rajab

Respected Anas bin Malik (RA) narrated that “There is a palace in Paradise in which no one will go except the fasting people of the month of Rajab.” (Hadith)

It is narrated on the authority of Respected Abu Hurayrah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said, “Whoever fasts for 3 days of the sacred month (Rajab) (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), Allah Almighty prescribes for him the reward of 900 years of worship”

Observe Istighfar

Some scholars say that the month of Rajab is for abandoning distance (or oppression) and the month of Sha’ban is for action and fulfillment of vows and the month of Ramadan is for attaining truth and fidelity. Rajab is the month of repentance, Sha’ban is the month of love and Ramadan is the month of nearness to God.

Respected Dhulnoon al-Misri states, “Rajab is for abandoning troubles (sins), Sha’ban is to perform good deeds, and Ramadan is for waiting for honors. Hazrat Dhu’l-Nun Misri states: “Rajab is for giving up troubles (sins), obeying Sha’ban deeds and waiting for Ramadan honors.

Therefore, he who does not forsake sins, does not do acts of obedience, and does not hope for honors, is bound to fall into superstition.

Rajab is the month of sowing crops, Sha’ban is the month of irrigating water and Ramadan is the month of reaping crops and everyone will reap what he has sown, so the servant should not neglect the reward process.

Perform Sadaqah and Charity

Imam Mazni (RA) has quoted the saying of Imam Hussain (RA) that “Keep fast of Rajab! Because his fast is a kind of repentance (revealed) from Allah.

There is also in hadith saying, “If a person fasts daily in the month of Rajab and at the same time continues to give alms and charity equal to his provision, he will be greatly appreciable.” ۔ The reward that will be given to this person, even if all the human kind want to estimate his reward, cannot even estimate. 

Respect Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) narrates that “Whoever removes the hardship of a believer in the month of Rajab, Allah Almighty will grant him a huge rank in Paradise.
