World’s Leading Humanitarian Aid Organisation

World's leading humanitarian aid organisation We exist to stand alongside people in moments of hardship and hope. Our work is rooted in compassion and driven by a simple belief: that every person deserves dignity, care, and the opportunity to live a secure and meaningful life.

What began as a small, community-led effort has grown into a global humanitarian movement supporting individuals and families affected by poverty, crisis, and inequality. Across generations and geographies, our focus has remained the same — responding to need with empathy, responsibility, and long-term commitment.

Our History

It began with connection. Communities came together around a shared sense of responsibility, recognising that caring for welfare was not an individual act but a collective one. People listened, organised, and collaborated with intention, responding to local needs while remaining mindful of wider challenges beyond their immediate surroundings.

From this shared purpose came action. What started locally grew through cooperation and trust, gradually extending across borders with a focus on creating support that was not only immediate, but lasting. These early efforts laid the foundations for an approach centred on sustainability, dignity, and long-term impact.

How it all began

Our story is one of steady growth guided by purpose. From early grassroots initiatives to large-scale humanitarian programmes, each chapter reflects a response to real needs on the ground and a commitment to serving humanity with integrity.

Foundation

Minhaj Welfare Foundation was founded in 1989 under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri, driven by a deep concern for the social and welfare challenges faced by vulnerable communities. His vision extended beyond individual acts of charity, focusing instead on building a collective response rooted in dignity, responsibility, and long-term care./This vision brought people together around a shared purpose. Volunteers, professionals, and community members connected their skills and resources, transforming concern into coordinated action. Through this process of connection and collaboration, early welfare efforts evolved into structured initiatives designed to create meaningful and lasting impact, laying the foundations for an approach that continues to guide the organisation today

Education Takes Root

Education Takes Root

As the organisation grew through the 1990s, education emerged as a central pillar of its work. Communities consistently identified learning as a pathway to stability and opportunity. In response, over 600 schools, colleges, and madrasas were supported, helping children and young people gain access to education that could shape their futures.

2000s
A Growing Global Responsibility

A Growing Global Responsibility

The year 2000 marked a turning point as Minhaj Welfare Foundation was registered as a charity in the United Kingdom. This step reflected both growth and responsibility, enabling the organisation to respond more effectively to needs beyond its original communities. Humanitarian work gradually expanded across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America.

Responding to Crisis and Need

Responding to Crisis and Need

Global crises increasingly shaped the organisation’s work during this period. Conflict, displacement, and natural disasters placed new and urgent demands on communities. In response, humanitarian efforts expanded to include clean water provision, healthcare, education, and emergency relief for families facing both sudden and prolonged hardship.

From Relief to Lasting Solutions

From Relief to Lasting Solutions

Experience on the ground highlighted the limits of short-term relief alone. As programmes matured, the focus increasingly shifted towards long-term, structured solutions designed to address root causes and support lasting change. This period saw the development of purpose-built orphan care facilities and the expansion of clean water initiatives, reflecting a deeper commitment to sustainability, dignity, and community resilience.

2020-25
Resilience Amid Global Crisis

Resilience Amid Global Crisis

One of the most demanding chapters in modern humanitarian response. Communities faced overlapping crises, from a global pandemic to devastating floods in Pakistan, a major earthquake in Turkey, and a prolonged humanitarian emergency in Gaza. As needs escalated rapidly, support adapted in real time, prioritising emergency relief, food security, healthcare, shelter, and recovery assistance. These challenges reshaped how humanitarian work was delivered, reinforcing the importance of local partnerships, preparedness, and resilience in responding to continuous and interconnected crises.

Looking Ahead

Looking Ahead

As the world continues to change, so do the challenges faced by vulnerable communities. Our focus is to strengthen the foundations built over decades of community-led work, deepening impact, improving accountability, and ensuring support remains relevant to real needs on the ground.

Let’s write the next chapter together.

The years ahead will prioritise sustainable solutions that move beyond short-term relief, integrating evidence-based decision making, stronger local partnerships, and improved systems for measuring outcomes. By working alongside communities, adapting to emerging challenges, and investing in long-term resilience, the aim is to create impact that endures well beyond immediate intervention.
