Livelihood

Livelihood supports individuals and families to build sustainable sources of income through skills development, tools, and economic opportunities. By strengthening self-reliance, the programme helps reduce long-term vulnerability and improve household stability

Building Pathways to Economic Independence

A lack of stable income limits access to food, healthcare, education, and secure housing. Livelihood works to address economic vulnerability by supporting practical, income-generating opportunities that enable individuals and families to meet their needs with dignity.

By strengthening skills and access to economic activity, the programme contributes to long-term stability and resilience at household and community level.

Why Sustainable Livelihoods Matter

Short-term assistance alone cannot address the root causes of poverty. Without reliable income, families remain exposed to repeated shocks, debt, and insecurity.

Supporting sustainable livelihoods helps:

  • Increase household income stability

  • Reduce reliance on emergency support

  • Strengthen resilience to economic shocks

  • Improve long-term wellbeing and self-confidence

How the Livelihood Programme Creates Impact

Livelihood supports income generation through targeted, context-appropriate interventions that respond to local economic realities.

Skills Development and Training

Individuals are supported to develop vocational, technical, or enterprise skills that improve employability and income-earning potential.

Tools, Assets, and Start-Up Support

Where appropriate, tools, equipment, or start-up resources are provided to help individuals establish or expand small-scale economic activities.

Ongoing Support and Progress Monitoring

Follow-up and guidance help ensure livelihoods are sustained over time, supporting effective use of resources and continuous improvement.

Longer-Term Outcomes

By supporting income generation and self-reliance, Livelihood helps families move beyond survival towards stability and growth. Over time, increased economic independence strengthens food security, access to services, and overall community resilience.
